A Delegation from Singapore Management University and Shantou University Business School Visit GDUFS Business School

On December 10, a delegation of 18 faculties and students from Singapore Management University and Shantou University Business School visited GSB. They would stay here for 2 days. Zhu Wenzhong, Executive Dean GSB, Jiang Yong, Associate Professor, Liang Yan, Supervisor of International Affairs of GSB, and MBA volunteers extended warm welcome to the guests.

On the 10th afternoon, the delegation visited Bureau of Nansha Trade and Investment Promotion in Guangzhou and were warmly welcomed by Wu Xiao, Deputy Director of Department of Business Liaison. He first presented to the delegation the Plan Model of Nansha New District (Nansha Free Trade Zone), and at the same time briefed on the development plan, policies and prospects of Nansha District.

Following the introduction, he had a meeting with the delegation in the office building. During the meeting, Jiang Yong talked about the development of Nansha, and highlighted the geographical advantages, favorable government policies and prospects of this region. Located in the heart of Pearl River Delta, one of China’s economy engines, Nansha is the one and only access to oceans from Guangzhou, serving a critical platform for Guangdong’s opening up, and an important hub for China 21st century Silk Road. At Q&A section, delegation members poured out questions in mind, and in turn Deputy Director Wu offered answers at his best. Everyone at present gained further insight of the opportunities and challenges facing the district.

On the 11th morning, Zhu Wenzhong, Executive Dean GSB delivered a speech about China’s leadership and innovation. His delivery, combining China’s realty with theories, was quite easy to understand. He mentioned the Book of Change whose essence is just change. And he then noted that leadership is thus supposed to vary from regions, cultures, times, and organizations. Pro. Ching from Singapore Management University agreed with Zhu’s speech and then shared management modes and concepts of Singapore enterprises. Dean Zhu also responded to students’ questions about China’s State-owned enterprises at  Q&A section.

On the 11th afternoon, the delegation visited Guangzhou Zhujiang Brewery Group Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as Zhujiang Brewery) in Nansha with Class 16D of the MBA Education Centre of GDUFS. Established in 1985, Zhujiang Brewery is a large state-owned enterprise dealing mainly in beer and its relative products and a group ranked in China's top 500 companies list. As a group authorized by state-owned assets, it possesses a national-level technology center. Zhujiang Brewery is one of the three largest beer brands in China whose sales of a single brand comes to second in the country. It is thus recognized in the industry as the No.1 beer brand in South China. Led by Zhao Wenshuai, a technician of Zhujiang Brewery and also student of Class 16A of MBA, the delegation visited the whole production line of draft beer of Zhujiang Brewery, which comprises of fermentation tins, the running bottling lines, and other procedures. They also visited the factory. Through the visit, the students learned that advanced technologies have brought about rapid developments of beer industry where smart machinery nearly replaces human work. The visit made them believe in the promising future of Zhujiang Brewery and learn its corporate culture in person.

Following the visit, the delegation were invited to taste the newly-brewed beer in the office. Over the drinking, they discussed the development differences between China and Singapore beer industries and at the same time exchanged ideas on spirit cultures of both countries. Members of the delegation all noted that they had learned a lot from the visit which came to an end in satisfaction.

During the visit, students of MBA interacted rigorously with delegation. They discussed the trends of internationalization and localization, as well as economic policies, leadership and new management approaches of both countries. They also exchanged contacts, and expressed hope that more visits like this could be organized in the coming years.
