Profile:
Dr. William Brashears is the Director of Global Education Services at Arizona State University, New College and Thunderbird School of Global Management, developing international partnerships and managing language/cultural programs. He previously served as Director of Global Education at the W.P. Carey School of Business, where he managed all aspects of globalizing the programming, with an emphasis on engaging international students/faculty with American culture. Focusing on the intersection of language and culture, his career spans three decades in corporate, governmental, and university-level global programming, including appointments as Spanish/intercultural communication faculty. Brashears holds an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management and a PhD (Spanish language and culture, intercultural communication specialization) from ASU. Living and working extensively in Asia, Europe, and Latin America, he believes in the promotion of dialogue to build cultural understanding. His current research explores diverse strategies to engage domestic and international populations, and includes the intersection of Chinese and Latino cultures, Chinese-centered discourse studies, Latin American visual culture, and South-to-South dialogues.
