In the twinkling of an eye,“Heartwarming Action in Winter”of GDUFS MBA has accompanied teachers and students of Dukeng Primary School in Longcun Town in Wuhua County of Menzhou for many years. In the spring of 2016, MBA Association of GDUFS continued the story. The “2016 Heartwarming Action in Winter”, a tour for public good, started on January 19th. This activity was led by Xu Jianjun, the chairperson of the 4th MBA Association of GDUFS, supported by MBA Education Center of School of Business of GUDFS and organized by the 7th MBA Association.
A delegation of teachers, students and alumni participated in the activity. They are: (no priority in the list of names)
15C Sun Bo, 15B Ai Lang (Zain), 14B Li Huaqing, 14B Chen Peipei, 11A Xiao Lan, 11D Yu Xiaoli, 14B Fu Xiaoqing, 14C Lai Chengjie, Teacher Zhang Manling, Teacher Liang Yan, 11C Xu Jianjun and two friends from outside of GDUFS.
The delegation departed from MBA Education Center of GUDFS at 8:00 AM and arrived Longcun Town in Wuhua County of Menzhou five hours later.Upon arrival ,the delegation had a brief meeting with the leading group of the local Central Primary School to communicate on the schedule of the tour and gain knowledge about primary school education and challenges in work.
It is learned that there are 37 village-level primary schools in Longcun Town.Dukeng Primary School is one of them. Due to the decentralization of population ,one class in most primary schools is composed of 10-20 students and quite a lot of students are leftover children and migrant children. If the yearly number of children of school age is less than 10, the children will have to wait one more year to attend the First Grade. Generally, a primary school will have 4-6 course teachers for Chinese, Mathematics and English. Only the Central Primary School of Longcun Town has full-time art teachers and music teachers. In other schools, the art and music courses are usually taught by teachers of major subjects.The teaching resources for non-major subjects are scarce.
After the meeting , the delegation departed from the Central Primary School of Longcun Town for Dukeng Primary School. With years of efforts, the school has set up new teaching buildings and equipped a classroom for reading and two computers for online learning. The students, who were familiar with the delegation, came out in great delight and welcomed the delegation. During the meeting, the delegation asked the headmaster and teachers about the developments of the school and the students. The school authority said that over 90% of its students were leftover children and migrant children.With the support of the government and the help of society and MBA of GDUFS, great improvement has been seen in the learning environment of students, teachers’ salary and students’ academic performance in recent years.The students ranked top in the final examination in the town. However, the school still faces difficulties in daily teaching activities and hopes for more support from all parties for the benefit of students.
The members of the delegation then entered the classroom to interact with the students. Ai Lang (Zain) from Class 15B, one vice chairperson of MBA Association of GDUFS, participated in the activity. This was the first time that the activity was attended by a foreign student. The delegation invited Ai Lang to interact with the students, hoping that the students will know the significance of English learning. In the meantime, Fu Xiaoqing, the secretary general of the 7th Association acted the role of music teacher and taught the students songs. The delegation members and children enjoyed a happy and meaningful afternoon.
In the end, the delegation of GDUFS MBA had a group photo with the teachers and students of Dukeng Primary School and presented the school with the goods and materials donated by warmhearted people. The school students had also prepared gifts for the members of the delegation.
After the tour, members of the delegation said they learned a lot from the activity and expressed their thoughts.Some members said compared with the substance, the children in the village are in greater need of care for the heart. Though the substance brought by the delegation was limited, the power of the new hope and dreams should not be underestimated. Some students said that it was a mission for managers to help others realize their dreams in addition to creating values for the society.The activity brought happiness to the students in village and gave members of the delegation valuable experience. It was a tough but meaningful journey!
