On the afternoon of April 23, Dr. Diane L. Wright of the Manchester City University, UK, visited the MBA Education Center of the School of Business and gave the students an lecture on “Whether can we eliminate gender stereotypes?”at the Room103 Teaching Building 9. The lecture was presided over by the vice president of the School of Business.

Dr. Diane started her speech from the following three aspects: a brief introduction about Manchester City University, the research on the theme of “Whether can we eliminate gender stereotypes?”and the role of higher education in the elimination of gender stereotypes. She first pointed out that the women's employment situation and working conditions in the United Kingdom had improved compared with 10 years ago, and showed a good prospect. However, women still showed greater disadvantages in management leadership, both in quantity and proportion. Thus she enumerated several aspects that hinder women's work, such as psychological barriers, women's conflicts and obstacles in family and work and so on. Dr. Diane also told the students her personal experience. She had had a short bid farewell to her career because of taking care of her children, but she still received a master's degree at this stage and successfully returned to the workplace. In this way she told the students that women could still cope with many obstacles even if they were still faced with many obstacles.

Then Dr. Diane then made the relevant recommendations for women in the field of career. She said that in order to adopt to the professional environment, it is not necessary to change themselves and comply with the current situation, but should be aware of the rules but not blindly follow these rules, challenge gender qualitative concept and shape the personality characteristics of “in my way of action” . In addition, Dr. Diane highlighted the role of higher education in improving the career status of educated women, such as providing relevant knowledge and skill to women's future career choice ,enhancing personal society status recognition, creating investment opportunities, building social circle, improving their effectiveness, enhancing self-confidence and so on.

Finally it came to the free Q & A session. The scene atmosphere was very lively and the students spoke enthusiastically. Dr. Diane answered their questions patiently.
